With the addition of a new four-storey block, SJK(C) Han Chiang in Penang will transition to a single morning session for its 900 students starting next year. Extending from an existing three-storey block, the new structure houses 22 classrooms and features an upper corridor that doubles as a balcony, fostering student interaction.
The project has reinstated its identity as a public school and is seen to be comparable with other prestigious schools. Students were glad to be in an environment that is conducive which fosters better quality forlearning and growth especially during the early years of their education. The stereotypes of schools locally have been altered thus boost the confidence of the general public.

The new square court will include a covered ball court, complemented by extra-wide walkways and landscaped areas. Constructed with a steel framework supported by concrete columns, the ball court is designed for efficient assembly and easy maintenance, while its open-plan layout ensures accessibility. Additionally, the grass field serves as a multifunctional space, promoting both circulation and recreational activities, enriching the overall school environment.
Mesh screening were particularly used as a repetiting element throughout the new extension and a uniforming element that carries through at every level. It was selected as the primary material as it provides relatively good screeniing and good visual permeability from a safety point of view.
Red bricks were used as an accent or even a feature whilst giving a nod to institutional architecture and character. From a functional point of view, red bricks are robust and has the ability to withstand high foot traffic and low in maintenance.
